Columnar basalt is one of the most striking stones in landscape design, but solid basalt columns of this height are extremely heavy. Blue Thumb's Triple Grand kit gets the look at a fraction of the weight: each of the three columns is cast in glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) from molds taken from real boulders, then painted by hand to read as natural stone. Together the three columns weigh about 450 lb, compared with the much greater weight of quarried stone at similar sizes.
The columns are staggered at roughly 42, 54 and 66 inches tall, which gives the group a strong vertical presence. Water rises through the top of each column, runs down its textured faces and disappears into a bed of pebbles, where it drains into a hidden 220-gallon reservoir and is recirculated. With no open pool, there is no standing water at the surface.
The kit is designed and built in Michigan and includes the columns, the AquaBox subsurface basin, two Mag-Drive pumps, plumbing, an auto-refill kit and about 320 lb of landscaping pebbles. Choose Dapple Gray, Chestnut or Espresso.

Installation & Ownership Notes
- The basin installs below grade: plan to excavate for a reservoir on a level, compacted base.
- The included manifolds and ball valves let you balance flow between the three columns.
- Plan for an outdoor-rated outlet within reach of the two 20-foot pump cords.
- The auto-refill kit can be connected to a water supply to keep the reservoir at level.
- Chestnut and Espresso require a specialty finishing process that can add about 1–2 weeks to production.
Why This Fountain
